The Table in the Rain

Lily was six years old when she walked into one of Manhattan’s finest restaurants with wet red boots, a purple backpack, and tears in her eyes.

“Can I sit with you until my mom comes back?” she asked.

The hostess tried to send her outside. The guests stared as if the child had ruined their perfect evening. No one helped—except Alexander Vale.

He was rich, feared, and powerful, but when Lily stood beside his table, his cold expression changed.

“Sit down,” he said.

Lily climbed onto the chair and handed him a crayon maze. “My mom says serious men are usually hiding the most.”

Alexander froze.

A few minutes later, Camila Reyes rushed in from the rain.

“Lily!”

Then she saw Alexander.

Seven years of pain passed between them in silence.

“Camila,” he whispered.

Lily looked up. “Mommy, you know him?”

Camila held her daughter close. Alexander stared at Lily’s eyes, her face, the small frown that looked painfully familiar.

“When was she born?” he asked.

“February twelfth,” Lily answered.

Alexander’s voice shook. “Is she my daughter?”

Camila closed her eyes. “Yes.”

The restaurant went silent.

Camila had believed Alexander abandoned her. Alexander had believed Camila left him. But that night, a package found near the service entrance revealed the truth: an old letter Camila had written years ago, begging him to find her, had been hidden from him.

Someone had kept them apart.

Alexander looked at Lily with tears in his eyes.

“I lost seven years,” he said. “I won’t lose another day.”

Lily gently touched his sleeve. “Are you staying?”

Alexander knelt before her.

“If your mom allows it, I’ll start by earning your trust.”

Camila looked at the man she had once loved, then at the daughter who had brought them back together.

Outside, the rain kept falling.

But inside that restaurant, a family that had been broken by lies finally found its way home.
