When Sofia arrived at her late sister Elena’s house with a bouquet of daisies, she expected to find empty rooms and painful memories. Instead, she heard the sound of a drill coming from upstairs.
She rushed into the pink nursery and froze.
A wooden crib was being assembled in the middle of the room. Protective sheets covered the walls, baby toys filled the shelves, and Rosa, Elena’s former housekeeper, stood beside the unfinished crib.
“What are you doing?” Sofia demanded. “Elena never had a child.”
Rosa stared at her in disbelief.
“You really don’t know?”
Then she opened a drawer and handed Sofia an envelope. Her name was written on it in Elena’s handwriting.
Inside was a letter.
Elena revealed that she had secretly given birth to a daughter. She had hidden the child because their uncle, Victor, had been pressuring her to sign over the family house and inheritance. When Elena refused, he forged documents and tried to take control of everything.
Sofia’s hands began to shake.
“Where is the little girl?”
Before Rosa could answer, a car stopped outside.
Victor’s voice thundered from the garden.
“Open the door! This property belongs to me!”
Rosa quickly handed Sofia a birth certificate and Elena’s original legal documents. This was the proof they needed.
Sofia called the police.
Victor tried to force his way inside, but officers arrived before he could enter. The forged papers were exposed, and an investigation began.
Then Rosa opened the door of the next room.
A little girl stood there, clutching a teddy bear.
Sofia fell to her knees in tears.
The house was never sold.
Months later, the crib was finally completed — not as a memory of what had been lost, but as the beginning of a new family.
