About Bob Edwards
Bob Edwards, born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1947, became one of the most recognizable voices in American public radio. His broadcasting journey began in Indiana before he joined NPR in 1974.
Early in his NPR career, Edwards co-hosted All Things Considered alongside Susan Stamberg. A major turning point came in 1979, when he was chosen as the original host of Morning Edition. He remained behind the microphone for nearly 25 years, becoming part of the daily routine for millions of listeners across the United States.
Known for his distinctive baritone voice and calm, intelligent interviewing style, Edwards had a talent for turning conversations into memorable radio moments. Among his most beloved features were his regular discussions with legendary sportscaster Red Barber.
Over the years, Edwards received numerous honors for his contribution to broadcasting. One of the most notable was a Peabody Award in 1999, recognizing a career that left a lasting mark on American radio.
