# She Joked That the Mafia Boss Should Marry Her—But He Had Already Bought the Ring

Rachel thought Luca Moretti’s offer to erase her brother’s $80,000 debt had to come with a price.

So, exhausted and angry, she laughed.

“If you want to control my life that badly, just marry me.”

Luca quietly reached into his jacket and placed a black velvet box on the bar.

Inside was a diamond ring.

He had been carrying it for three weeks.

Rachel stared at him.

“Why?”

Luca finally admitted that his feelings had started long before Noah’s gambling debt. Rachel had fascinated him because she was the only person at the club who treated him like an ordinary man instead of someone to fear.

But Rachel made one thing clear.

“Helping me doesn’t mean you own me.”

“I know,” Luca said.

He paid Noah’s debt, helped arrange professional treatment for his gambling problem, and made sure Rachel was no longer dragged into the dispute.

But Rachel refused the proposal.

“If I ever marry you, it’ll be because I choose you—not because I owe you.”

Luca closed the ring box.

“Then I’ll wait.”

Over the following months, he did exactly that. He stopped trying to solve every problem for her, respected her independence, and gradually stepped away from the darker side of his family’s world.

Nearly a year later, Luca returned to the same bar.

He placed the same ring in front of her.

“No debt this time. No danger. No conditions.”

Rachel looked at him for a long moment.

Then she smiled.

“Good. Because this time my answer is yes.”

What had begun as a desperate joke became something neither of them expected—a marriage chosen freely, not arranged by fear.
