Veterinarian Maeve Hart saved Argos, a blind Cane Corso belonging to feared mafia boss Dante Caruso, after finding him injured during a blizzard.
While treating the dog, Maeve discovered that someone had conditioned Argos to attack Dante whenever he heard a particular command spoken in a woman’s voice.
The mastermind was Dante’s nephew, Julian. He planned to kill his uncle, frame Maeve for giving the command, and seize control of the Caruso empire.
Julian returned to the clinic and played an artificial recording made from Maeve’s voice. Argos charged toward Dante, but Maeve stepped between them and used a calming signal she had taught the dog during his recovery.
Argos stopped inches away and lowered his scarred head into her hands.
Security footage and chemical evidence recovered from the dog’s collar exposed Julian’s scheme. Realizing the depth of the betrayal, Dante turned his nephew over to the authorities.
Argos survived but remained blind. Dante funded a rehabilitation center for abused animals and began dismantling his criminal operations.
In time, Maeve saw that the feared man was capable of becoming someone better. The dog intended to turn her into a murderer instead saved both their lives—and brought together two people who had believed trust was no longer possible.
