Two days before marrying Vanessa Bellandi, Desmond Hale found his assistant Nora injured inside her apartment. Beside her lay a ring bearing the Bellandi crest and a photograph of his brother Ethan’s burning car.
Nora revealed that she had spent three years investigating Ethan’s death. Ethan had discovered that the Bellandis were stealing Hale shipments, so Marcus Bellandi ordered his murder to silence him.
Vanessa knew everything. She had sent a man to steal Nora’s evidence, but he lost the family ring during the struggle.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Desmond asked.
“You were going to marry her. I didn’t know whether you would believe me.”
Desmond realized Nora had risked her life to protect him while his future wife planned to use their marriage to seize his empire.
The following night, he gathered both families to supposedly finalize the wedding agreement. Instead, Nora presented recordings, forged contracts, and evidence connecting Marcus to Ethan’s death.
Vanessa and Marcus were arrested. The Bellandis lost their contracts and influence, while Desmond publicly canceled the wedding.
Months later, he abandoned his family’s criminal operations and rebuilt Hale Maritime as a legitimate company.
Nora remained beside him, but no longer as his assistant.
When Desmond asked why she had stayed despite the danger, she quietly answered:
“Because I loved you long before you finally learned to see me.”
This time, Desmond refused to let her walk away.
