Leah realized Graham’s memory loss was not caused by his accident. Someone was deliberately keeping him sedated and weak.
With Graham’s permission, she documented his symptoms and arranged an examination by an independent neurologist. Tests revealed excessive levels of sedatives and muscle relaxants that did not appear anywhere in his official medical records.
Graham was quietly transferred to a hospital, where specialists safely changed his treatment. His mind cleared within days. Two weeks later, he managed to stand between parallel bars.
Meanwhile, a financial audit exposed Maren’s real plan. She had used her brother’s supposed incapacity to seize control of Alder Meridian Group. The eighty-million-dollar Westbridge acquisition would transfer company funds into a business she secretly controlled. Dr. Wren had been paid to keep Graham confused and physically dependent.
Maren called a board meeting to have her brother declared permanently incompetent. She was certain he could not challenge her.
Then the conference-room doors opened.
Graham entered with Leah and his attorney, walking slowly behind a steel walker.
“I was never incompetent,” he told the stunned board members. “I was being made incompetent.”
Medical reports, bank transfers, and recovered security footage proved the conspiracy. Maren and Wren were arrested, and the fraudulent acquisition was stopped.
Several months later, Graham could walk with a cane. He established a foundation to protect vulnerable patients from medical and financial abuse, then asked Leah to become its director.
“You taught me how to walk again,” he said.
Leah smiled and shook her head.
“No. I only reminded you that no one had the right to keep you sitting down.”
Graham had believed he needed another nurse.
