The Fireworks Promise

The fireworks had just begun when Emma leaned close to Daniel and whispered, “I know what you did.”

His smile disappeared.

That morning, Emma had found a velvet box hidden in his jacket. Inside was a diamond ring—and a receipt carrying another woman’s name: Rebecca.

All evening, Emma pretended nothing was wrong. But beneath the fireworks, she finally confronted him.

“Who is Rebecca?”

Daniel silently handed her the box. Beneath the ring was a folded note:

“For Emma. From Rebecca — the sister who never got to meet you.”

Emma froze.

Daniel explained that Rebecca was his late sister. Before she died, she had left him money with one final wish: if he ever found the woman he truly loved, he should use it to buy her ring.

“I was going to ask you tonight,” Daniel said softly.

Then he knelt beside the lake as golden fireworks filled the sky.

Emma covered her mouth, tears running down her cheeks.

“Yes,” she whispered before he could finish.

Later, when the celebration grew quiet, Daniel showed her an old photograph of Rebecca.

“She would have loved you,” he said.

Emma looked at the ring on her finger and squeezed his hand.

“Then she’ll always be part of our story.”

Above them, the final firework lit the night like a promise.
